Will Cyprus be affected by the deadly storm that swept through Crete?

What are the experts' forecasts for the wave of rain and thunderstorms?
ALPHANEWSLIVE

There is a possibility that Cyprus could be affected by the severe weather conditions that struck the island of Crete over the past 24 hours, leaving behind an 80-year-old farmer dead, as well as widespread flooding, landslides, rivers bursting their banks, and severe damage to roads, bridges, homes, and businesses. Weather analyst Tasos Ierodiakonou reported that experts estimate yesterday’s rainfall in Crete was equivalent to Attica’s annual total. Specifically, 360 millimeters of rain were recorded, while the total rainfall in Cyprus amounts to 450–500 millimeters.

Mr. Ierodiakonou explained that a new wave of bad weather, which is currently located between Cyprus and Crete, is expected to hit Crete starting Saturday. Part of the system is also affecting Cyprus, bringing rain and thunderstorms from the west to the north.

“The heavy rain isn’t likely to reach us due to the wind, but we will experience rain throughout the weekend.”
