A fire broke out after a lightning strike, prompting the Forestry Department to mobilize.

According to a statement from the Forestry Department, the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at the “Pyrkolofos” site on the outskirts of the abandoned village of Agios Epifanios Solea, in the Nicosia District.

A single tree was burned by the lightning strike; however, the prompt response of the forest firefighting forces prevented the fire from spreading further, and it was brought under complete control at 2:00 p.m.

Three members of the Forestry Department worked to extinguish the fire using a fire truck.
