A
heated verbal exchange between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Israeli representative Michael Eisenberg, took place during a closed-door session of the “Board of Peace” on Gaza in New York, according to Turkish media citing Israel’s Channel 13.
Tensions reportedly reached such a point that Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, the report states.
Turkish media note that the incident occurred about a week ago, during a closed-door meeting of the body responsible for planning for Gaza.
The meeting was attended by senior representatives of the “Board of Peace,” including U.S. envoys Steve Whitecoff and Jared Kushner.
According to reports, tensions flared when Hakan Fidan took the floor and attacked Israel’s policy in Gaza, characterizing its actions as “genocide.”
Michael Eisenberg, Israel’s representative on the “Board of Peace” and a figure whom Channel 13 describes as a close associate of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
A heated verbal confrontation ensued between the two men, with voices, according to reports, rising in the room.
The same sources report that the confrontation ended only after Jared Kushner intervened to defuse the situation.
So far, there has been no official statement from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from the U.S. side regarding this specific incident.
The revelation comes at a time when international consultations are continuing regarding the future of Gaza and the role that regional and international forces will play in the post-war management of the region.
Turkey is seeking an active role in these processes, while its relations with Israel remain strained due to the war in Gaza.
