Key dates have been set for the DISY candidate selection process for the presidential election
As reported by journalist Evangelos Agapiou on Alpha TV’s main newscast, a slight extension was granted to the dates proposed by the party’s Executive Bureau, with the Political Bureau deciding that the submission of candidacies will take place on October 26 and the internal party elections on November 28.
It should be noted that the Political Bureau met for more than 2.5 hours, during which Anita Dimitriou proposed that the 250 members of the party’s organized groups sign all nominations to facilitate the candidates’ process.
Meanwhile, George Pamporidis, who had expressed his intention before the Political Bureau to run as a candidate in the internal party elections, proposed a 3- to 5-day extension from October 13 for the submission of candidacies, to allow time to gather the necessary signatures.
Absent from the meeting is the party’s former president, Averof Neophytou, who is currently abroad, and former President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, who has distanced himself from the party’s collective bodies due to the “State Mafia” scandal.
