Rafael Dimitriou is leaving Anorthosis

As General Director of the Association

Rafael Dimitriou announced his resignation from the position of General Manager of Anorthosis.

In a post, he reflected on his four-year tenure in the club’s administration and the challenges he faced during that time.

“I remain a die-hard Anorthosis fan, ready to return to where I grew up: the stands. See you there,” he said.

In detail:

“After careful consideration, the time has come to bring a close to a long chapter, one filled with intensity and emotion. A journey that wasn’t just a job or a professional obligation for me. It was the best and, at the same time, the most difficult period, because working for the team you love is a dream, but feeling the daily responsibility that its survival—especially over the last two years with so many challenges—depends on your own actions is truly difficult.

As the club’s General Manager from 2022 to 2024, I was blessed to witness firsthand the incredible solidarity of our community through the contributions made to repay the “Antonis Papadopoulos” loan —moments that surpass any athletic achievement, moments I will always carry with me.

In October 2024, after a series of meetings, when Kyriakos Prastitis asked me to join the board as one of the Vice Presidents, it was an invitation I simply could not refuse, and despite the difficulties we faced, I thank him for this honor. At one of the most challenging turning points in our history, we fought tooth and nail, rolled up our sleeves, and—with the support of every Anorthosis fan—achieved the most important thing: keeping Anorthosis alive.

In January 2025, I assumed the position of CEO, as requested by Kyriakos Prastitis’s administration after months of unsuccessful efforts to find someone for that specific position, while also stepping down from my role as Vice President.
I gave my all for the team, taking on the burden of negotiating settlements for the dozens of outstanding debt cases involving former players and others, as well as the complete reorganization of the finance department.

I would like to warmly thank Kyriakos Prastitis’s Board of Directors for their cooperation and the trust they have shown in me from day one. At the same time, I would like to thank Christos Marangos’s administration, and in particular Savvas Koumis, for their excellent cooperation during this challenging period of administrative transition. I also owe a huge thank you to all the staff, colleagues, and volunteers associated with the team for their daily contributions and support throughout this entire period.

I am absolutely certain that the new administration will do everything humanly possible to restore Anorthosis Famagusta to its rightful place, and I wish them success from the bottom of my heart. Of course, beyond offering assistance during this transitional period, my door will always be open to the team whenever they ask for my help in the future.

But the biggest thank you goes—and we all owe it—to the ordinary Anorthosis fan. At every call, they rushed to show their support in a tangible way—not just financially, but also with a moving and dynamic physical presence, serving as a true shield for the team. It was this support that made the mornings—after countless sleepless nights—more bearable and gave us the strength to carry on day by day.

My time as a member of the team’s staff may be coming to an end, but my relationship with Anorthosis remains unchanged. I remain a die-hard Anorthosis fan, ready to return to the place where I grew up.

To the stands.

See you there.
