Argentina crushed Burkina Faso 7-0 in a friendly match played in the early hours of the morning, just a few days before Lionel Messi’s farewell match with the national team, scheduled for early Wednesday morning against Benin.

Following their 4-0 victory over Bolivia, the World Cup runners-up showed no mercy against a weak opponent. Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring by pouncing on the rebound after goalkeeper Razak Gira saved his own penalty kick. This was Martínez’s 42nd goal for Argentina, a feat that tied him with Sergio Agüero for third place on the list of the country’s all-time leading scorers. Only Gabriel Batistuta, with 54 goals, and Messi, with 125, are ahead of him.

Argentina doubled its lead in the 8th minute when Burkina Faso defender Moumouni Diallo, accidentally sent the ball into his own net while trying to clear it.

Shortly after, Gianluca Prestiani scored his first goal for the national team in the 12th minute, cutting into the box and unleashing a powerful shot that beat the goalkeeper.

Niko Pas scored Argentina’s fourth goal in the 35th minute with a cool finish, finding the back of the net for the second consecutive match. Julian Alvarez made it 5-0 before halftime with yet another impressive goal.

Franco Mastanduono, who had come on as a substitute, scored his first goal for the national team in a one-on-one situation to make it 6-0 in the 57th minute, while Giuliano Simeone, in the third minute of stoppage time, sealed the final 7-0 score for Lionel Scaloni’s team.
