AEK will play its second and final friendly match ahead of the league’s resumption on Saturday against OFI at the Allwyn Arena today at 11:00 at Elliniko against Panetolikos. The match will be a training session and will be played behind closed doors.
Marko Nikolić will be without a total of 16 players due to the absences of national team players and those on the injured list, however, he will give playing time to players who are slated to take on a bigger role than they have had so far, while also evaluating some players from the U19 team.
As for the injured players, Lazaros Rota and Thomas Strakosa are expected to resume their regular training schedule starting next week. The former has a very good chance of playing in the match against the Cretans, while the latter is also on the right track and, if he is slated to play in the match against Shakhtar (10/14), he’ll need to play against OFI as well to get into rhythm. In any case, the decision is difficult, partly due to Alberto Brignoli’s form.
As for Barnabas Varga, the Hungarian still needs more time, and the most likely scenario is that he’ll aim to be ready for the game against Manchester City on (10/20).
