The start of the Bahrain Grand Prix in Formula 1 was delayed by about 40 minutes due to heavy rain at the Sepang circuit. The race was scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Greek time, but it was only after the rain subsided that officials determined the race could begin, with the formation lap taking place at 10:40 a.m.
The medical car reported the presence of “a significant amount of standing water” at various points on the track, with the FIA adding that conditions were not suitable for the race to begin.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is in pole position—his first of the season—with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton alongside him on the front row of the grid. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes will start from third place.
