The skies opened up, and in the early hours of the morning, torrential rain and strong winds battered the island.

“In the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of Paphos, we’re looking at up to 20 millimeters. In the mountains, up to 24 millimeters. On the coast, particularly the western coast, 15 to 20 millimeters. It appears we had significant rainfall in the Zygi area—41 millimeters. In other inland areas, rainfall was lighter, ranging from 10 to 15 millimeters. Several areas have been affected.”

There was also intense lightning activity, with citizens posting impressive videos on social media.
The Fire Department responded to a total of eight incidents—two in Larnaca and six in Famagusta.
The incidents involved moving stranded vehicles with passengers due to water accumulation on the road, pumping rainwater from properties, and removing fallen trees.

“It appears that the weather conditions are subsiding. We will have some isolated showers—though thunderstorms cannot be ruled out—from tomorrow through Wednesday, mainly in inland and mountainous areas. Starting Thursday, it looks like the weather will be mostly clear. As for temperatures, they will remain around 27, which is slightly below average.”

The hydrological year began on October 1 under the best of circumstances.

September ended with average rainfall in the unregulated areas at 124% above normal. As of October 2, reservoir levels had reached 35.8%.
