Greece withstood Germany’s pressure and held on for a 0-0 draw, moving even closer to its big goal of advancing to the Nations League quarterfinals!

After the match at Toumba Stadium ended, the president of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), Makis Gagatsis, went into the locker room and addressed the national team players, congratulating them and rallying them for what lies ahead!

Here is what Makis Gagatsis told the national team players in detail: “First of all,

congratulations to everyone. If someone had told us before we started this four-game stretch that we’d get two wins and two draws, we would’ve taken that deal before it even happened.

I told you, before this four-game stretch began, not to sell yourselves short. You didn’t let yourselves down, but know this: you didn’t surpass yourselves either. Because that is your true worth. Your true worth is that you played Germany twice and earned four points.

Your true worth is that you played against the Netherlands and tied the game in 1989, and you left feeling disappointed. That’s why you didn’t surpass them—you didn’t surpass yourselves. Because your true worth lies in finishing first in this group.

Here we are in November. The first goal was achieved, as we said: to be among the top three in the group, so that we’re in the top seeding group for the Euro 2028 qualifiers.

Not that, if we were in second place, we wouldn’t be looking Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain in the eye again—because you really can. You’ve shown that you can beat anyone. Know this for sure.

When I said not to sell yourselves short, that’s exactly what I meant. And you yourselves believed that you could beat them all.

Here we are in November. I hope we make it to the quarterfinals. We’ll be here, so to speak, because we’ll most likely remain in League A as well. And after the November games are over, we’ll discuss the points and everything else.

So, we have two more games to go. Let’s finish these first.

All right, congratulations again to everyone, and let’s go for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Thank you.”
