Greece has achieved its first goal!
The Greek national team clinched third place in Group 2 of League A of the Nations League and, at the same time, secured a spot in the first seeding group for the Euro 2028 qualifiers. Furthermore, the team is certainly still very much in contention for a top-two finish and a spot in the Nations League quarterfinals.

Greece avoids all of Europe’s powerhouses. It will not face teams such as Spain, Germany, England, France, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, or Croatia in its group.
This means the group will be significantly more balanced, with opponents that do not pose the same level of difficulty. Greece will start off as a strong contender, with greater ease in managing its matches and a better chance of building up points early on.
The draw for the Euro 2028 qualifiers will take place on December 6 in Belfast, and that’s when the extent of the benefit will become clear.
From there on, Greece will avoid not only the powerhouses but also the mid-tier teams that often create “trap groups.” It will enter as a strong contender, with a clear goal of advancing and a schedule that won’t require it to go above and beyond in every match.
Had Greece been placed in the second seeding group, it would have faced one or two top-tier teams, which would have made qualifying more difficult. In this scenario, the path becomes more complicated, the demands increase, and the margin for error decreases.
