Barcelona has returned to… normalcy over the past two years with Hansi Flick at the helm, having won both the league title and the Super Cup in each of those seasons, though the Champions League remains their unfulfilled dream. In the 2023–24 season, the Catalans were eliminated in extra time in the semifinals; last year they were eliminated in the quarterfinals, and this year their primary goal is to return to the top of European soccer.
The German coach’s contract expires in the summer of 2028, and despite pressure from Barcelona officials, he is not currently considering extending his contract.
As a result, the president of the “Blaugrana,” Joan Laporta is considering other options who could be worthy replacements for Flick, and the one who appears to be in the lead is Cesc Fàbregas, according to “Sport.”
The Spanish coach has done an amazing job at Como, which is competing in the Champions League and will face AEK, and he knows the Barcelona organization better than anyone, having played in its youth academies and worn the first team’s jersey, winning, among other titles, the 2012/13.
It is worth noting that reports indicate Fabregas has a special clause in his contract allowing him to leave as a free agent if he accepts an offer from Chelsea or Barcelona.
