A fifth Assistant Chief of Police is coming

Changes in the leadership structure of "Dynamis" are expected soon
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The top leadership of the Police will see two new appointments, as the position of former Deputy Chief, Ioannis Mavrochanna, who retired last September, is set to be filled, while Deputy Chief Giannakis Georgiou is also expected to retire in early December.

As ALPHA has learned, the police leadership has put forward ideas and recommendations—which have the support of the Minister of Justice—to increase the number of Assistant Chiefs be increased from four to five.

Chief of Border Protection—Deputy
Chief of Local Policing and Operational Support
-Deputy Chief of Administration and Training – Deputy
Chief of Crime Prevention and Combating

According to the same sources, the proposal is for the fifth Assistant Chief to assume duties related to logistical support, a position that must be approved and given the green light by the Council of Ministers, as it involves an increase in authorized positions.

According to the information, the increase in the number of Deputy Chiefs will be due to the heavy workload and the burdensome portfolios that the four Deputy Chiefs are called upon to manage.

Potential Candidates

There are quite a few contenders for the positions, since all Senior Police Officers are eligible for appointment as Assistant Chief.

However, the leading names mentioned so far are those of the Commander of the Special Forces (MMAD), Sophocles Ionas, and the Director of DEEDAS (Directorate of European Union and International Police Cooperation), Haris Filippidis.

Also on the list of candidates is Andreas Angelides, Director of the Police Academy.

After the evaluation of all senior police officers by the relevant committee and once recommendations are submitted to the Chief of Police, Themistoklis Arnaoutis, the Minister of Justice has the final say.
