Yesterday morning, the police arrested a 23-year-old man, to facilitate the investigation into an ongoing case of computer-related fraud and the misappropriation of funds through false representations.
The investigation into the case began following a complaint filed with the police last February by a 64-year-old Limassol resident. According to the complainant, on February 1, 2026, she received a message on her cell phone that appeared to come from a private courier company. The complainant clicked on the link in the message and, while attempting to pay the €3.46 fee, she discovered that unknown individuals had stolen €34,600 from her account.
Following an investigation conducted by members of the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate, evidence was secured against the 23-year-old, who was arrested yesterday on a court warrant and taken into custody to facilitate the investigation.
The 23-year-old is expected to appear before the Limassol District Court this morning for proceedings to issue a detention order against him.
The case is being investigated by the General Directorate of Economic Crimes (GDEC) of the Limassol Police Department.
