Food waste is a daily challenge with significant environmental, economic, and social consequences. Foods such as stale bread, overripe fruit, and leftovers often end up in the trash, even though they could be put to creative use.
CookWise addresses this need; it is a European project co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program and implemented by organizations from Poland, Cyprus, and Bulgaria.
Less waste, more sustainable cooking
CookWise aims to provide citizens with practical knowledge and simple solutions to reduce household food waste, while promoting sustainable cooking and changing everyday habits.
Through educational materials, digital tools, and creative recipes, the project shows how we can make better use of the food we already have at home, transforming leftovers into new meals and giving food a “second life.”
CookWise in Cyprus | October 9–11, 2026
The project’s message is being brought to Cyprus through the Zero Waste Gastronomy Campaign, a three-day campaign coordinated by the Centredot educational center, with the participation of trainers and chefs from the partner countries.
Specifically, on October 9, in Klerou, cooking videos will be filmed featuring ideas for making use of food that we often throw away. The videos will be available to the public for free after the campaign concludes.
On October 10, at the 6th Klerou Cultural Festival, chefs from the partner countries will lead hands-on workshops on the creative use of stale bread, overripe fruit, and food scraps.
From Cyprus, acclaimed chef Christina Christofi will participate and present a wonderful recipe inspired by the philosophy of creatively using food scraps, transforming them into a new and delicious dish.
The campaign concludes on October 11 at the Nicosia Book Fest, at Acropolis Park, where the public will have the opportunity to learn about CookWise and its cookbook through interactive activities.
