In remarks to reporters, upon arriving at the Opening Ceremony of the New Judicial Year of the Supreme Constitutional Court and when asked what the government is doing to mitigate the issue regarding fuel purchases from the Greek Cypriot-controlled areas, the President of the Republic said that “the government has invested more than one billion euros to address the impact of rising prices, particularly regarding fuel, prices that are rising due to external factors and not due to internal factors.”
He described it as a very fortunate circumstance that the government has the financial capacity to intervene with support measures.
“It is a very fortunate circumstance that the government has the financial capacity—precisely because of our responsible fiscal policy—to support our fellow citizens,” he noted.
He concluded by saying that “We are here, assessing the measures, the data, and the prices on a daily basis, and we are taking action—and I am glad, I repeat, that we have the ability to take action—wherever and whenever necessary.”
