Medochemie was honored with the “Golden Cedar,” the highest special honorary distinction of the Pan-Cyprian Environmental Awards for Organizations and Businesses, Medochemie was honored, having received the highest score among all nominees and across all categories.
The award was presented to the company by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, during the 8th Awards Ceremony of the 2025 Pan-Cyprian Environmental Awards, held at the Presidential Palace.
The “Golden Cedar” is the institution’s highest honor and is awarded to the company or organization with the highest overall score. Medochemie also won a Gold Medal in the “Primary Sector – Manufacturing – Industry” category.
This significant new award recognizes Medochemie’s long-standing environmental policy and its systematic efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its production activities. The company has consistently invested in energy conservation, the rational use of natural resources, and responsible waste management.
In recent years, Medochemie has significantly increased its investments in cleaner forms of energy and in the energy retrofitting of its facilities. As of October 1, 2025, all of the electricity consumed at the company’s plants in Cyprus will come from renewable sources, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of production.
Investment in research and technology also supports this goal. Through its participation in the European LIFE Pharma Detox project, Medochemie contributes to the development and implementation of innovative technologies for treating pharmaceutical residues in wastewater, with the aim of managing them more effectively and protecting water resources.
On the occasion of the “Golden Cedar” award ceremony, Dr. Christakis Sergidis, Chairman of Medochemie’s Committee for Environmental Protection and Energy Conservation, stated:
“Receiving the ‘Golden Cedar’ award is a special honor for Medochemie and recognition of an effort we have consistently pursued for many years. Receiving the highest rating in Cyprus is of special significance to us, as it reflects the collective work of our people and the investments we make to continuously improve our environmental performance.
As a pharmaceutical company, we are fully aware of the responsibility that comes with our manufacturing activities. For this reason, we continuously invest in technologies and infrastructure that allow us to make better use of energy and natural resources, reduce waste, and continually improve the way we operate.
This year’s award holds even greater significance for us, as Medochemie celebrates its 50th anniversary. It is an anniversary that fills us with pride in what we have built, but at the same time reinforces our responsibility for the future. The “Golden Cedar” honors us and gives us even greater motivation to continue setting higher goals.”
It is worth noting that Medochemie’s environmental efforts have been repeatedly recognized by this award, with the company winning the Gold Environmental Medal for seven consecutive years.
The same commitment that characterizes its environmental efforts has guided Medochemie throughout its 50-year journey of growth and development. Since 1976, when Dr. Andreas Pittas founded the company in Limassol, Medochemie has grown into the country’s largest pharmaceutical company, while also developing a strong international presence, with 15 production facilities in Cyprus, the Netherlands, and Vietnam, 2,000 employees worldwide, 19 offices, and sales in 122 countries.
