One of the most significant deals in the history of the global entertainment industry has been finalized, once again shifting the balance of power in Hollywood.

Paramount Skydance has officially completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in a deal worth approximately $110 billion, creating a new giant that brings together some of the world’s most powerful film, television, and streaming brands.

The new company will operate under the name Skydance, while the Paramount and Warner Bros. brands will retain their own identities. According to David Ellison, the choice of name aims to create a new corporate umbrella without overshadowing the historic identities of the two studios.

A New Giant in Entertainment

The agreement brings an impressive portfolio under the same corporate umbrella. The new structure includes, among others, HBO, CBS, CNN, Paramount+, HBO Max, Nickelodeon, Showtime, Comedy Central, and DC Studios, creating a group with a presence in film, television, streaming, and news.

Even greater is the value of the content that is transitioning into this new business reality. From Harry Potter and Game of Thrones to The Lord of the Rings, Mission: Impossible, and the DC Universe, Skydance gains access to some of the most recognizable franchises in the modern entertainment industry.

This combination significantly strengthens the new group’s position in a market where streaming, film production, and strong intellectual property now form the key pillars of competition.

David Ellison at the Helm

At the helm of the new corporate structure is David Ellison, who retains overall strategic and creative control of the group.

For the day-to-day operations and integration of the two companies, former Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz will serve as co-CEO alongside Ellison. Kreiz is expected to focus primarily on operational integration, while Ellison will be responsible for long-term strategy, creative direction, technology investments, and key partnerships.

The new management structure comes at a time when Skydance is tasked with managing an exceptionally large and complex group, with the goal of saving approximately $6 billion through the consolidation of operations. At the same time, the new entity is starting out with significant debt, making the successful integration of the two companies critical for the future.

A deal that had to overcome many hurdles

The completion of the deal has been a source of concern for consumers, employees, and other market players. In September, Paramount Skydance reached a settlement with the states; the deal comes after months of intense negotiations, legal battles, and reviews by the relevant competition authorities.

In the U.S., California and 11 other states had filed a lawsuit against the deal, arguing that the merger could restrict competition and affect consumers, employees, and other market participants. In September, Paramount Skydance reached a settlement with the states, paving the way for the transaction to be completed.

As part of the settlement, it was agreed, among other things, to establish independent boards to oversee the news operations of CNN and CBS News, with the aim of ensuring the independence and objectivity of their reporting.

The Next Chapter for Hollywood

The completion of this deal is not just another business transaction. It creates one of the most powerful groups in the global content market, at a time when traditional studios are now competing with tech giants and international streaming platforms.

Skydance thus begins its new era with an exceptionally strong portfolio, an international presence, and some of the entertainment industry’s most valuable intellectual properties.

The big question now is not whether the deal can change Hollywood. It is how profoundly it will change it.
