He explained how tickets will be distributed and allocated and stated that the games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday, with the schedule remaining unchanged. He also emphasized that we have the experience and, as a country, we are fully prepared for matches of this level.
The main points of what Panikos Konstantinou said:
Is Maccabi’s participation in Cyprus confirmed? “We’re leaving a small window open, as we’re awaiting final approval from the EuroLeague. We expect it by Monday. We’ve cleared all the procedural hurdles. I’d like to thank the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA), the Police, and the President of the Republic. Essentially, the effort began with the ‘Chandriotis’ tournament. There are still a few minor procedural details to be resolved regarding EuroLeague requirements. For example, we will be bringing in specific basketball hoops to meet the required specifications. We’re very close to hosting the games in Cyprus. The main goal is to kick off on October 22 with the game against Real Madrid.”
Regarding tickets: “Maccabi will make 3,000 tickets available to Israelis. Following our suggestion, we secured 1,500 tickets for Cypriot fans for each game. Details on how the tickets will be distributed will be announced shortly. Visiting fans will be entitled to 100 tickets and 40 VIP tickets. With this allocation, approximately 5,000 spectators will attend each game.”
Regarding the game dates: “The dates will remain as they are. Games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The dates are listed on the EuroLeague website.”
Regarding whether the arena will continue to be used by teams in Cyprus: “The arena will be made available to Maccabi the day before and on the day of the game. During our meeting, they showed flexibility, as some league champions and teams use the arena. It will continue to be available to those who use it.”
Regarding press credentials: “Of course there will be credentials. The process will be handled internally through Maccabi. We’ll decide how many credentials to issue to each media outlet.”
Final comment: “I believe we’ll be fully prepared. After all, we now have experience. We’re delighted that basketball fans in Cyprus will have the opportunity to watch these games up close.”
At the same time, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, who explained how and why the Israeli proposal was accepted.
