The Spiros Kyprianou Sports Hall in Limassol, home of Maccabi Tel Aviv in the EuroLeague. The die was cast following yesterday’s inspection of the arena by the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the police, and arena officials. This development also worked in the President’s favor.
“We can respond based on the assessment that has been conducted. I am not the person in charge; the assessment is not based on political but on technical criteria from the Police’s perspective.”
Konstantinos Letympiotis – Government Spokesperson
“We have completed all the procedural steps. I would like to thank the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA), the Police, and the President of the Republic, who launched this initiative.”
Panikos Konstantinou – Maccabi Representative
Maccabi’s debut in Cyprus will take place on October 22, with the team facing Real Madrid.
“Maccabi will make 3,000 tickets available to Israelis. We have secured 1,500 tickets for Cypriot fans.”
Panikos Konstantinou – Maccabi Representative
Security measures for games deemed high-risk will be draconian. They include limited attendance by visiting team fans, controlled movement to and from the stadium, strict entry checks, and segregation in the stands.
“The stadium will be made available to Maccabi for a rental fee on the day before and on the day of the game. It will be taken over by the security company and the police. Attendance will be carefully managed, and security will be in place. The stadium will be available as usual for those who use it.”
Panikos Konstantinou – Maccabi Representative
Increased attention is expected to be paid to Maccabi’s matches against the Turkish teams Fenerbahçe, Anadolu Efes, and Beşiktaş, which naturally pose greater challenges.
“The Republic of Cyprus recognizes Turkey, and of course there will be no obstacle on our part. All necessary measures will be taken.”
Konstantinos Letympiotis – Government Spokesperson
The presence of intelligence services around the stadium will also be discreet.
The police have already begun preliminary operational planning, which is not limited to the Spiros Kyprianou Stadium but also includes the movements of the teams, the teams’ arrivals and departures, as well as policing in the areas surrounding the stadium.
