The recent string of poor results appears to be leading to a change in the coaching staff of the Turkish national team, with Vincenzo Montella reportedly on the verge of leaving. According to reports, the Italian coach is expected to be out, with the country’s soccer federation already looking ahead to the next chapter.
The name now at the forefront is that of Arda Turan. “Gazzetta dello Sport” presents the 39-year-old coach as the front-runner to take over the national team, with negotiations reportedly well underway. He is one of the most prominent figures in Turkish soccer, having made his mark at both the club and international levels.

Turan has played for Galatasaray, Atlético Madrid, and Barcelona, among others, and with the Turkish national team, he has made 100 appearances and scored 17 goals. In recent years, he has transitioned to coaching, with his career path leading him to Shakhtar Donetsk, which he currently manages and with which he won the league title last season.
These developments come after a particularly difficult period for Turkey. The country’s World Cup run ended prematurely, followed by four consecutive losses in the Nations League—results that significantly increased the pressure on Montella. All signs now point to the federation moving toward a fresh start, with Arda Turan currently the front-runner to take the helm of the national team.
