The Health Insurance Organization (OAY) and the Cyprus Police, in light of new cases of online fraud being investigated by the Police involving the theft of money from citizens’ bank accounts.
In an urgent joint statement, the OAY and the Police report that false and malicious messages continue to be sent to cell phones, which appear to originate from GESY, using the name “GESY” or other names referring to healthcare providers.
They also note that these malicious messages may appear in the same conversation as legitimate messages that have already been sent by GESY to beneficiaries.
The OAY and the Police emphasize that the Organization will never request via SMS any passwords, login credentials, payment details, or other personal data via SMS, nor will it ask citizens to conduct financial transactions via electronic links.
Finally, they urge citizens who receive such messages not to open the links they contain and to delete them immediately.
