Teachers gathered outside the Presidential Palace as part of their protest regarding the system for appointing teachers in public schools.
They are members of the teachers’ organizations POED, OELMEK, and OLTEK. It should be noted that in a joint statement issued yesterday, the three organizations stated that the Ministry of Education’s updated proposal “leaves no room for calling off the mobilization,” arguing that ‘the proposal does not provide a substantive response to the concerns of thousands of teachers’ nor ‘does it secure their job prospects or address the injustices that have arisen.’

For her part, the Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Athina Michailidou, stated yesterday that, as far as the Ministry is concerned, there is no deadlock, but that a consultation process is underway, while she spoke of a fair and balanced proposal that takes into account teachers with prior experience and those who have already passed the exam.
Teachers note that “the creation of a closed registry,” which would lead to temporary appointments with no real prospect of permanent employment, and they warn that this would perpetuate job insecurity.
