In remarks made on a podcast, Lionel Messi admitted to a “big mistake,” as he put it.
“I regret so many things, and I tell my kids that. Getting a good education, studying, and being prepared. The fact that I didn’t learn English when I was young… I had the time to do it and I didn’t. I regret that very much,” said the Argentine star at first, who then emphasized that there were many instances and situations in which he felt uncomfortable because he couldn’t have a conversation with prominent figures he met during his career.

“I’ve found myself in situations where I was with incredible figures—people I could have talked to and had a conversation with—and I felt somewhat ignorant. I’d think: ‘What an idiot—how did I waste my time?’” he concluded.
