More than 108 kilometers of asphalt paving, 81 kilometers of sidewalk repairs, 103.84 metric tons of waste collected through targeted cleanup campaigns, and investments of over €5 million in green spaces and parks are included in the figures for the projects being carried out in Limassol by the city’s municipality. The work focuses on three areas that directly affect daily life in the neighborhoods: the road network and sidewalks, sanitation, and the condition of parks and public spaces.
108.9 kilometers of asphalt paving
Regarding the road network, from July 2024 through November 2026, a total of 108.9 kilometers of roads are scheduled to be maintained and upgraded, while approximately 81 kilometers of sidewalks have been repaired to date. The total contract value of these projects exceeds €26 million. Funding for asphalt paving increased from €1.6 million in 2024 to €4.3 million in 2025 and €8.2 million in 2026. Similarly, €2.6 million was allocated for sidewalk repairs in 2024, €3.5 million in 2025, and €5.5 million in 2026. Alongside the larger asphalt paving projects, local repairs and road marking are being carried out, while the plan also includes cobblestone restoration work in areas such as Anexartisias and Mesa Geitonia.
Over 103 metric tons of waste collected during cleanup campaigns
In the area of sanitation, targeted cleanup campaigns carried out in various parts of the city have so far resulted in the removal of 103.84 metric tons of waste. Specifically, from the 12 targeted actions carried out to date, 55.93 metric tons of bulky items, 30.33 metric tons of mixed waste, and 17.58 metric tons of tree trimmings. Depending on the needs of each area, the campaigns include the removal of bulky items and tree trimmings, cleaning and washing of public spaces, trimming of wild vegetation, and maintenance of urban infrastructure. At the same time, the equipment used for cleaning purposes is being upgraded. The related expenditures increased from approximately €400,000 in 2024 to €2 million in 2025 and €4 million in 2026. The new equipment includes, among other things, street sweepers, cleaning vehicles, walk-behind electric sweepers, and high-pressure washers.
€5 million for green spaces and parks
Improvements are also underway in parks, squares, and green spaces, with related investments exceeding €5 million. To date, approximately 4,000 trees have been planted in tree-lined avenues, while approximately 14,000 trees and 3,600 palm trees are being maintained. At the same time, more than 6,700 square meters of safety surfacing have been installed in playgrounds. At the same time, 25 existing parks and squares are undergoing a comprehensive redesign, with the goal of providing more greenery and natural shade, upgraded areas for children, and new uses for different age groups.
The figures reflect the scope of the interventions currently underway at various locations throughout Limassol. In the coming period, the focus will shift to continuing the work and completing projects that directly affect the appearance and functionality of the city’s neighborhoods and public spaces.
