Shakhtar Donetsk had the perfect… warm-up ahead of its match against AEK in the second round of the Champions League group stage. The Ukrainians defeated Veres Rivne 3-0 in their eighth league match, confirming their strong form.
Shakhtar secured a comfortable victory, even though they played with a numerical advantage starting in the 37th minute. This result boosts their confidence ahead of the match against Union at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s home stadium, where they will look to build on their recent strong performances.
Pedrinho was the one who opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, giving Shakhtar a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, things got even better for the visitors when Baran was shown a straight red card, leaving Veres Rivne with ten men.
In the second half, Matvienko extended the lead to 2-0, laying a solid foundation for his team’s victory. Pedro Edrique sealed the final score in the 71st minute, capping off an impressive performance by Shakhtar, which now turns its attention to the upcoming European match against AEK.
