The Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI)—the chamber from which the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) originated—presents the discussions and developments regarding the future of the CSE. The goal is to select a strategic investor by 2026.

“It is very encouraging that there is interest in acquiring our stock exchange from foreign investors, from Israel and Greece—where a meeting was held with Euronext—as well as from the Ancient Republic. There is also strong interest from India, let’s not forget to mention that.” Philokypros Rousounidis, Secretary General of KEVE

He clarifies that the increased interest from the Israeli side creates new opportunities for Cyprus to develop into a major regional hub.

“By capitalizing on its geographical location and its European institutional framework, as well as the strong business relationships it has developed with Israel and others. The goal, however, is not simply to attract investment interest but to transform it into real added value for the Cypriot economy and local businesses.” Philokipros Rousounidis, Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Economists told Alpha that the best course for Cyprus is to operate within the European framework.

“It certainly won’t be granted without specific parameters, certain guarantees or safeguards—at least regarding its continuity and structure. But possibly also regarding the structure of the Board of Directors, which will include representatives—for example, the country’s chamber of commerce might have a seat on the Board of Directors.” Filokypros Rousounidis, Secretary General of KEVE

As for meetings held so far outside of Athens, a preliminary meeting took place with the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). Meanwhile, regarding interest from the rest of Europe, according to Mr. Rousounidis, although discussions are taking place that have not been made public, they should be formally submitted.
