There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and increasing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive police operations, seven individuals were arrested for various offenses, including illegal residence in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, driving under the influence of alcohol, verbal abuse, and theft.
As part of these operations, 699 drivers and 213 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 43 premises were inspected to address violations, resulting in six complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 330 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 12 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Of the citations issued, 85 were for speeding, and 12 vehicles were impounded as part of police investigations.
A total of 224 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in 10 citations. Two preliminary drug tests yielded no positive results.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
