AEK BC issues a strongly worded statement regarding the damage at SUNEL Arena.
The club officially took a stand, labeling those who did not respect the hospitality as vandals and hooligans, calling on Olympiacos BC to denounce what happened and to ensure that those responsible for the damage are never allowed back into the arena.
The statement from AEK BC:
“Vandals and hooligans who failed to respect our hospitality, who scrawled offensive slogans against our fans, and who desecrated the memory of our deceased have no place at SUNEL Arena.
While Olympiacos BC does have a contractual obligation to repair the damage caused during the game against Efes, but it also has a moral obligation to track down and isolate these monsters, and to never again allow them entry to our arena or any other arena.
And while the majority of the “red-and-white” team’s fans respected the venue and displayed exemplary behavior, honoring our hospitality, nevertheless, the disheartening behavior of a few has understandably provoked disgust, anger, and outrage among our fans, as well as among all right-thinking sports fans across the country. The AEK BC Management is fulfilling a contractual obligation by hosting an opponent at our arena, but we do not intend to tolerate, ever again, behavior that crosses the line and offends our ethics, our refugee heritage, and, more broadly, our glorious history.
We expect Olympiacos BC to denounce what happened and to permanently “ban” from their arenas the subhuman individuals who desecrated our stadium.”
