Atlético Madrid did not let Federico Valverde’s return to Real Madrid’s roster go unnoticed, taking another jab at their archrivals regarding the Uruguayan midfielder’s injury.
Specifically, the “Roji-Blancos” chose to comment ironically on the development via a social media post, referring to a… medical miracle. “We would like to congratulate Real Madrid for continuing to make history, proving that the entire global medical community was 100% wrong,” Atletico stated pointedly.
The pointed statement came after Real’s announcement that Valverde had suffered a third-degree ankle sprain, following a hard tackle by Kang-in Lee in the derby between the two teams. In fact, that particular play had sparked strong reactions from the Madrid side, who had demanded the South Korean’s immediate ejection.
Despite the severity of the injury that had been reported, Valverde was included in Real Madrid’s roster again just 17 days after the club’s announcement, a development that gave Atlético the opportunity to bring the issue back into the spotlight.
Thus, nearly three weeks after the derby, the controversial play continues to spark debate, with the rivalry between the two teams now extending beyond the four lines of the field.
We want to congratulate @RealMadrid for continuing to make history by proving that 100% of the global medical community was wrong.
