Everton for sale: The friedkins are opening the door to a sale

Less than two years after they became involved
ALPHANEWSLIVE

A development that few had anticipated has changed the landscape at Everton, as the Friedkin Group (a diversified business conglomerate owned by Dan Friedkin’s family, which, among other things, controls Roma and Everton) confirming that it is exploring various options to attract new investment into the club, without ruling out even the sale of the stake that secures control of the “Toffees.”

The Americans took over Everton in December 2024, bringing an end to Farhad Moshiri’s turbulent tenure. Through Roundhouse Capital Holdings, they acquired 98.8% of the club at a time when financial difficulties, heavy debt, and on-field problems had left one of England’s most historic clubs in an extremely difficult position.

The Friedkins’ first major challenge was to stabilize Everton financially and complete the move to its new home. Starting in the summer of 2025, the “Toffees” will play at Hill Dickinson Stadium, which seats approximately 53,000 spectators, leaving behind the historic “Goodison Park” after 133 years.

Having now completed this phase of the transition, the owners believe the groundwork has been laid to consider the “next chapter” for Everton. They have made it clear that they will only engage with potential investors whom they consider capable of continuing the club’s progress. To this end, the investment bank Moelis & Company has already been hired to advise the Friedkin Group throughout the process. At this time, there is no known potential buyer, nor is there a specific timeline.

The news came as a surprise even to David Moyes. The Everton manager revealed that he was informed of the developments just a few hours before appearing before the press.

And so, just two years after the end of the Moshiri era, Everton once again finds itself at a potential crossroads regarding ownership. Only this time, the club has a more stable financial foundation and, most importantly, a brand-new stadium that significantly changes the club’s commercial potential and value.
