Max Verstappen dominated qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix and secured pole position at the Marina Bay circuit for the first time in his career. The Dutch Red Bull driver stood out in Q3, leaving the two Ferraris behind and laying the groundwork for a strong showing in Sunday’s race (Oct. 11, 3:00 p.m.).
The session was plagued by problems, as several cars encountered difficulties with their software. However, Verstappen managed to remain unfazed and set the fastest time, confirming his quality on one of the most demanding tracks in the championship.
Charles Leclerc took second place, edging out Lewis Hamilton in the final seconds. The British Ferrari driver will start third, keeping his hopes alive for a shot at victory. Kimi Antonelli finished fourth, while Lando Norris took fifth place. They were followed by George Russell and Oscar Piastri, with Pierre Gasly, Liam Lawson, and Arvid Lindblad rounding out the top ten.
Earlier, Hamilton had stood out in both Q1 and Q2, setting the fastest times. In the first session, Isaac Hanzar, Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Pérez, Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso, and Alex Albon were eliminated. In the second phase, the runs of Nico Hülkenberg, Oli Berman, Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz, Gabriel Boretto, and Franco Collapinto were eliminated.
The Singapore Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 3:00 p.m. Greek time, with Verstappen having the opportunity to turn his pole position into a victory.
