The Stoiximan Super League is making a strong comeback after an unprecedented three-week hiatus, with teams having to dive right in without time to think it over.
Aris will host Volos at “Kl. Vikelidis Stadium,” for Matchday 6 of the Greek league, with both teams on a downward trend and looking for the right opportunity to turn things around (October 11, 7:00 p.m.). The match takes on special significance, as both teams need a positive result to regain their confidence.
Michalis Grigoriou’s team got off to a strong start to the season, with two consecutive wins in the first two matchdays, against Kalamata (2-3) and OFI (2-1). However, things didn’t go as well afterward. A crushing 5-0 loss to AEK in Nea Filadelfia followed, followed by another loss, this time against their “hated” city rival PAOK, 2-0. Before the break for national team duty, Aris played to a 0-0 draw against newly promoted Heraklis, failing to get back on the winning track.
The experienced Greek coach will not be able to count on the services of the injured Yiannis Gianniotas and Manos Garcia, while Bruma’s fitness remains in question after several months away from competitive action.
On the other side, Volos still seems to be struggling to find its footing, and the three-point deduction has only made matters worse.
The only points Volos has managed to earn came from two draws, against newly promoted Heraklis (1-1) and Olympiacos (1-1). However, they suffered bitter defeats against OFI (2-0), Kalamata (3-1), and AEK (2-1), even though they fought until the very end.
Now, however, the team from Magnesia sits at the bottom of the standings with -1 point due to the penalty imposed on them. Thus, the need for a turnaround in the standings is urgent, as any loss could make the rest of the season even more difficult.
For this match, Kostas Bratsos will be without Myga and Mentil, who were both sent off in the game against Enosis.
Probable starting lineups:
Aris (M. Grigoriou): Velcho, Petric, Sitalo, Fabiano, Richards, Hongla, Racic, Palasios, Gare, Kantevere, Moron.
Volos (K. Bratsos): Kozelev, Lykourinos, Kargas, Es Saoubi, Katsikas, Grosdis, Komba, Lambrou, Gonzalez, Tzoka, Furtado.
