Fortune doesn't always favor the bold, but soccer does! Clear proof of this is APOEL’s 2-1 victory yesterday (10/10) over Nea Salamina, in the fifth matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.
In a match they controlled completely from the very first minute, the “blue-and-whites” had to wait until stoppage time to celebrate the three points, having previously faced a series of unlucky moments.

The first half went smoothly, with Papadopoulos’s team heading into the locker room with the lead thanks to Pedroso’s well-taken penalty kick (22′), while they also came close to making it 2-0 when Jurišić’s shot struck a defender’s foot and hit the crossbar in the 45th minute.
After the break, it was the “Red-and-Whites’” turn to come out strong and tie the game with a header by Aldair in the 53rd minute. From that point on, things started to go awry for the Nicosia team, not because of poor play, but because the ball literally refused to go into the net.
APOEL, in its attempt to regain the lead, hit the crossbar twice more, while Varo made an equal number of saves on the goal line. With time running out and luck clearly not on their side, a likely scenario would have been for the home team to get nervous, lose their composure, and ultimately slip up.
However, the “blue-and-yellows” showed character, kept their composure, didn’t give up, and were ultimately rewarded in stoppage time (90+1′), with Dalcio capitalizing on Limnios’s impressive run down the right flank to set the final score.
