At the same time, the Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV channel in Yemen reported that Saudi Arabia had bombed the international airport in the capital, Sana’a.
Houthi Threats Against Airlines
Earlier, the Houthis claimed that the airport, which they say is under their control in Sanaa, came under attack again, one day after the Saudi-led coalition blamed the Houthis for a new deadly missile attack on Riyadh International Airport, which left 12 dead and more than 300 injured, some of them seriously.
The Houthis have not yet claimed responsibility; however, a military spokesperson for the group warned “all airlines, experts, employees, staff, and travelers not to use Saudi Arabia’s airports and airspace, as they are vulnerable to attacks and have become a theater of operations for our forces.” He wrote on X that the airports in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina are exempt.
Condemnation from Netanyahu as Well
Even Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemns the “horrific” attack on the Riyadh airport, while Turkey and Arab countries—including Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria—have joined the international outcry. Following UN Secretary-General António Guterres, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned that “attacks by Iran’s proxies are pushing the region into a vicious cycle of violence and destabilizing critical global transportation and energy hubs.”
Riyadh announced that among the dead were four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi nationals, one Palestinian, one American citizen, and nationals of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Sudan.
The Egyptian flight attendant who was killed has been identified as 28-year-old Azza Ramzi, who worked for the Saudi airline Flynas, according to Egyptian state television.
A widowed mother of four from Syria who had been living in Saudi Arabia for the past five years is reportedly among the dead.
