Aris returned to winning ways in dramatic fashion, defeating Volos 3-2 at “Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium” in the 6th matchday of the Stoiximan Super League.
The Thessaloniki side put an end to their three-game winless streak, celebrating their first league victory since August 30 and their 2-1 win over OFI.
The “Yellows” completely dominated the first half, taking a three-goal lead thanks to goals by Kouamé (7′), Fabiano (23′), and Kantevere (43′). In fact, Aris had the chance to score another goal, but Kantevere missed a penalty kick in the 32nd minute, with Siabanis saving his attempt.
The visitors fought back in the second half and scored through Ayakua in the 57th minute, while Kargas cut the lead to 3-2 in the 86th minute, turning the game into a nail-biter in the final minutes. In the end, Aris held on to its lead, climbing to 10 points, where it is tied with OFI and Olympiacos.
On the other hand, Volos—plagued by numerous absences—put in a disappointing performance in the first half, struggled to keep up with the home team’s pace, and failed to make any headway in the match, despite showing some resistance in the second half. The team from Magnesia remains at the bottom of the standings with -1 point, following the three-point deduction imposed on them, as the pressure mounts ahead of the rest of the season and they lose Bournits to injury.
In the next (7th) matchday, Aris will face Kifissia at Leoforos (Oct. 18, 8:00 p.m.), while Volos will face Levadiakos at “Lambros Katsonis” Stadium (Oct. 17, 5:00 p.m.).
