Sabbianco anorthosis returns to the super cup handball titles

In a thrilling game that went into overtime, Sabbianco Anorthosis Famagusta defeated Parnassos Strovolos 34–33 to win the 38th Allwyn Men’s Super Cup, adding the fifth trophy in the competition’s history to its collection!

The match at the “Kition” Sports Center in Larnaca provided incredible thrills. The two teams were neck and neck in the first half, which ended in a 13-13 tie, while at the 45-minute mark, Parnassos held a 24-21 lead.

Anorthosis came back strongly and took the lead 27-26 at the 56-minute mark, but the game had even more excitement in store. “Kyriá” was leading 28-27, and after missing the chance to make it 29-27, Parnassos tied the score, sending the game into overtime!

In the first five minutes of overtime, the two teams remained tied at 30-30. In the second half, Parnassos managed to score three goals while playing shorthanded, including one with two fewer players, putting the Famagusta team in a tough spot.

The “Lady” hadn’t said her last word yet, and with a 3-0 run in the final stages of the match, she turned the tables and secured a dramatic 34-33 victory, celebrating her Super Cup triumph.

E.N. Athenou and APOEL KN Ag. Trimithias have concluded their European campaigns

The European campaign of E.N. Athenou and APOEL KN Ag. Trimithias in the second round of the EHF Women’s European Cup has come to an end, with the two Cypriot teams playing away against opponents from Portugal and Azerbaijan, respectively.

Last season’s double champion, E.N. Athenou, faced off against Portugal’s C.J. Almeida Garrett, suffering a 37-15 loss in the first match and a 31-16 loss in the second. The team’s top scorer in both matches was Magda Papa, who scored a total of 18 goals.

Meanwhile, APOEL KN Ag. Trimithias faced Kur from Azerbaijan, with both matches ending in losses: 40–18 in the first game and 39–13 in the second.

Despite the results, this year’s European campaign held special significance for both teams. For APOEL KN Ag. Trimithias, it marked the first European appearance in its history, while E.N. Athenou represented Cypriot women’s handball on the European stage for yet another year.

The participation of both teams is a valuable experience and contributes to the presence and visibility of Cypriot handball in European competitions.
