AEK and Omonia Aradippou face off today (10/12, 7:00 p.m.) at the “Arena” for the fifth matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.
The Larnaca-based team is coming off an away win against Omonia 29M (2-1) and want to pick up where they left off before the break, securing a second consecutive victory that would allow them to climb back to the top of the standings. The “yellow-and-greens” have nine points, and if they win, they’ll tie with AEL, reaching 12 points.
The break was beneficial for the home team, as it allowed the players to rest, while also giving Rubén Seyes the opportunity to work calmly with his entire squad. Tonight, for the first time, we’ll be able to see the results of the 43-year-old coach’s work; having been hired just two days before the start of this… marathon, did not have the luxury of instilling his philosophy without the pressure of official matches.
On the other side, the “Pigeons” remain undefeated so far, with one win and three draws, the most recent being against Olympiacos (1-1). Yiannis Okkas’s team may be the underdog, but they should by no means be underestimated, as they have proven they can cause trouble and will seek to come away from a difficult away game with points to maintain their perfect record.
AEK will be without three players: Amin, Tsakon, and Olivan.
The first has not yet fully recovered from his injury and will remain on the sidelines to regain his rhythm, while the Venezuelan is recovering from minor surgery to remove a screw from his foot.
Finally, the left back suffered a muscle injury during the break in AEK’s friendly match against Apollon.
Omonia Aradippou is traveling to Larnaca without the services of Paris Polykarpou, who successfully underwent ankle surgery.
