Karl-Anthony Towns openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the Knicks' decision to postpone the extension of his contract.
The 30-year-old power forward/center is eligible to sign a four-year extension worth up to $276 million. He will earn $57 million this season and has a $61.1 million option for next season. He has shown a willingness to sign a contract lower than the maximum he is eligible for, but not one that drops close to the $200 million that was reportedly the Knicks’ initial offer.
“It was something new for me. I’m very disappointed, to put it… mildly. Let’s state the obvious: it’s business, but we also have work to do on the court,” stressed KAT, who averaged 20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3 assists per game during the regular season, while in the playoffs he averaged 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks on average.
As for whether he feels he has something to prove? “I just won a championship. You’d think things are pretty simple. Unless you think I have something else to prove,” said the six-time All-Star.
