“Right now, there’s nothing. I read about it, I hear about it, but there’s nothing at the moment”: This was how economist Tasos Yiasemidis responded to reports and rumors that he had been approached by AKEL to run as the party’s candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. When asked about this on the “Alpha Enimerosi” program, he said “Everything in its own time,” and noted that the presidency of the Republic is one of the most serious issues and requires that viable policies be examined and that positive fiscal indicators reach the citizens.
“Let there finally be, as we say, a reformist policy so that citizens can experience the changes in public service and be served in a way that improves their standard of living.”
Mr. Yiasemidis noted that citizens should be fully informed “and we must be clear about what is financially feasible and what is not.”
“These elements must be in place within a specific framework for a candidacy to exist. Beyond that, when any developments arise, we will be able to discuss them.”
