AEGEAN announces that Dimitris Gerogiannis, a founding executive of the company since its first year of operation in 1999, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the past 20 years, is concluding his tenure at the helm of the company. Dimitris Gerogiannis will continue to support the company as it transitions to the next generation of executives, serving as a Management Consultant with oversight of the Technical Base and the Training Center, the Group’s new growth strategy.
Michalis Kouveliotis assumes the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company effective today.
Michalis Kouveliotis has supported the company in his role as CFO even before its listing on the Athens Stock Exchange, and since early 2025, as part of the company’s preparations for the transition, he has served as Deputy CEO, responsible for coordinating the other divisions.
AEGEAN Chairman Eftychios Vasilakis stated: “Dimitris Gerogiannis, together with Theodoros Vasilakis, shaped the culture of quality and passenger service, as well as the culture of meritocracy and collaboration among the company’s employees. Dimitris possesses the rare gift of combining technical expertise with a human touch. For all of us, he is a co-founder and co-creator of the company—qualities that remain unchanged even as he hands over the CEO position. He will, in fact, continue to support the company as it transitions from its founding executives to the next generation.
Michalis Kouveliotis, who is taking over as CEO, has already demonstrated his ability to support the company during periods of growth as well as during critical, challenging times. Over the past two years, as Deputy CEO, he has led the transition process, and his positive energy and drive have already been recognized. I am confident that he will excel in his new role.
Our primary goal should be to develop, promote, and foster even more effective collaboration among the company’s second generation of executives, as they take over from the founding members who are gradually stepping down. We must uphold the core values of quality, service, and flexibility, but we must support them with new ideas and momentum in our products and destination network, as well as by nurturing new talent who, with an even greater sense of teamwork, will help grow the company and its people.”
