Lietkabelis vs. PAOK: The goal is to extend the “black-and-white” winning streak

Going for 3 out of 3
ALPHANEWSLIVE

PAOK is back in European action and diving back into the fray of the EuroCup, which is now entering its third round of play.

PAOK remains undefeated, with a perfect 2-0 record, but will now face a test in Lithuania, where it will take on Lietkabelis (Oct. 13, 7:00 p.m.).

The “Double-Headed Eagle of the North” is in excellent form, both in Greece and in Europe, as—following its loss to Olympiacos in the Super Cup final (101–96)— they’ve recorded nothing but wins across all competitions. Andrea Trinchieri’s team is showing consistency and efficiency—qualities they aim to maintain in this challenging road game.

Against Manresa in their EuroCup opener, they prevailed 93-78, and subsequently defeated Bosna 75-72 in Sarajevo. The picture is similar in the Stoiximan GBL. PAOK got off to a strong start against Mykonos (85-88) and also dominated Doxa Lefkada (86-73). These consecutive victories have boosted the players’ confidence, and they are eager to build on their positive start.

PAOK’s performances have not yet been entirely impressive. However, the team is getting the results it needs and continues to rack up wins, which is what matters most at this stage of the season. At the same time, every game is an opportunity for further improvement, with the goal of becoming even stronger as they continue their European campaign. Donatas Motiejūnas, who was included in the roster, is expected to make his debut, while Kalathis and Osman—who were rested in the last league game—are set to return.

Omoruyi, Kaklamanakis, and Filios remained in Thessaloniki. PAOK’s 13-man roster: Naz Mitrou-Long, Marcus Foster, Brin Tyree, Trevor Haddins, Kyle Alexander, Ben Moore, Cedi Osman, Nick Calathes, Nikos Persidis, Nikos Chougaz, Raikwan Gray, Nasos Bazinas, and Donatas Motiejūnas.

On the opposing side, Lietkabelis has one win and one loss in the EuroCup, but will host PAOK coming off three consecutive losses. First, they lost to the superior Zalgiris Kaunas 97-68, then lost in Italy to Roma 92-87, and failed to get past Jonavos, falling to them 65-71. Thus, the Lithuanian team will be looking to bounce back in front of its home crowd, while PAOK aims to capitalize on the opportunity and come away with yet another valuable result.
