"We are not afraid of either dialogue or negotiations," said the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, today.
Speaking to reporters as he was leaving the Presidential Palace this afternoon to attend his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Mr. Tufan Erhürman, when asked whether today—as Mr. Erhurman had stated—only the seven MOEs mentioned by the UN Secretary-General would be discussed, the President of the Republic said that “the agenda is determined by mutual agreement, and no such agreement exists.
I am going in a very positive spirit, with political will, to continue the discussion from where we left off during our last meeting before traveling to New York—a meeting that had a positive tone—and I repeat, I hope that some concrete positive results.”
When asked whether the 19 points were still on the table, the President of the Republic replied, “Of course, they’re on the table; the Secretary-General is aware of them, as is Mr. Erhurman, who reserved his response until our next meeting. I had specifically submitted them before we traveled to New York; despite our best efforts, it was not possible to hold a meeting in New York, so today we will discuss these matters, and of course, whatever topic Mr. Erciyurman wishes to address—we have no problem with that. We are not afraid of dialogue, discussions, or negotiations.”
