The DistrictNicosia District Local Government Organization is awaiting the final plan from the relevant authorities regarding the safe collection and relocation of the animals living at the Menelaos theme park in the community of Agioi Trimithias, in order to proceed with the implementation of the court order for demolition.
According to a statement from the Nicosia District Organization, the Authority was informed in mid-2025 of the first-instance demolition ruling issued in 2022 and subsequently coordinated with the relevant government agencies. At the same time, it assigned the handling of the case to an external legal counsel, who completed the necessary steps to file a criminal case for contempt of court.
According to the Organization, in February 2026 it notified the Ministry of Agriculture in writing regarding the preparation of the process, requesting an estimate of the time required to receive the animals, in order to ensure the smooth implementation of the decision. The Ministry temporarily postponed this communication due to its handling of the epidemiological issues that had arisen in connection with foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus.
Following the Supreme Court’s rejection of the appeal last April, the Nicosia EOA states that it was prepared to file the relevant contempt of court case. At a meeting held on May 11, 2026, at the Ministry of Agriculture, the need to establish a timeline was emphasized so that it could be included in the Court’s directives and to ensure the animals’ shelter and feeding.
The EEA also states that, following a request from the Ministry of Agriculture in late August, it resubmitted the site’s floor plans on September 4, 2026.
As it notes, it has since been awaiting the final plan from the relevant authorities for the safe receipt and transport of the animals, so that the implementation of the court order for demolition can proceed without a hitch.’
