Greta Thunberg expressed her support for students in France by taking part in the protests.
A new round of protests is taking place today, Tuesday, October 13, in France, with high school and college students participating to demand more funding for schools, the hiring of teachers, and improved teaching conditions.
In Paris, the main march is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. local time, while rallies have also been announced in other cities, including Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Rennes, Toulouse, and Bordeaux. The protests began in mid-September, with young people denouncing shortcomings in educational institutions and calling for greater priority to be given to education.
The Swedish activist took part in a protest outside the Paul-Éluard High School (Paul-Éluard) in Saint-Denis, expressing her pride in the French students while also condemning the police’s treatment of them, according to the French news outlet BFM.

Youth Protests Are a “Great Source of Inspiration”
Thunberg described the mass youth protests in Europe as a “great source of inspiration,” noting, however, that the youth’s reaction was to be expected, given the circumstances they face.
“When you subject young people to conditions that are incompatible with basic human rights, when you don’t invest enough in education, of course they’re going to revolt,” she said.

At the same time, she noted that politicians live “in a completely different reality” from that of the younger generation, highlighting the gap between the needs of young people and the priorities of political leaders.

Allegations of “extremely violent” police conduct
The activist denounced the police’s treatment of students in Saint-Denis, describing the police as “extremely violent” toward young people protesting for what she called “the obvious.”
“This says it all about the police and who they really protect. Security forces are supposed to protect young people,” she emphasized.
Thunberg: “We Will Fight for Our Future”
Thunberg said she was “extremely proud of the French students,” who, she argued, refuse to give up their fight against a society that neglects them.
“We see it here: schools don’t have the investment they need. This sends young people the message that they aren’t a priority in their society. And what are we supposed to do? Give up? Of course not. And that’s exactly what the people here are doing. We will fight for our future,” he said.
