Families will see a noticeable 10% increase in the child allowance for families with incomes up to 22,000 euros and a 5% increase for those with annual incomes up to 44,000 euros.
“The long-standing distortion that has been a burden on people—where even a very small increase in their income would cause their entire allowance to be abruptly cut off— The relaxation of all income criteria now eliminates this risk.”
Tina Pavlou – Deputy Minister of Social Welfare
The amendment also links families to other subsidy programs, such as those for education and for the care and feeding of preschool-aged children.
“We are particularly pleased that 2,000 families can now benefit from these services along with the increase in the allowance, and approximately 2,800 children will receive this benefit.”
Tina Pavlou
The bill relaxing the income criteria for child allowance recipients was discussed for the first time today in the House Labor Committee, with the goal of passing it before the end of the year and implementing itin January 2027.
Among other important proposals recently implemented by the Deputy Ministry of Welfare is the “Mother and Child” Plan, which was approved last Thursday by the Cabinet.
“We are here to reach out to and support families by empowering them through home visits by social workers.”
Tina Pavlou
This program enables mothers to connect directly with other services and ensures more timely intervention for families.
