The Nicosia Police Department is investigating a highly unusual case, following the disappearance of a foreign national’s remains from the morgue at Nicosia General Hospital, with no official record of their removal.
The issue was brought to light by the newspaper “Fileleftheros”; according to the information available so far, the remains are those of a British citizen who had died in Paphos about a month ago.
In fact, due to the suspicious nature of his death, the body was transferred to Nicosia for the legally required autopsy, as the Paphos Hospital morgue remains out of service.
The case came to light when a representative from a funeral home visited the morgue to collect the body and proceed with the necessary arrangements for its transport to the United Kingdom. However, upon arrival, he discovered that the body was not there, prompting him to report the incident to the authorities and trigger an investigation.
According to the report, one of the possibilities being examined is the potential involvement of another funeral home in the process of receiving the remains, although no such action has been documented.
