Lamine Yamal continues to impress, once again leaving his mark on Barcelona’s dramatic comeback against Galatasaray in Istanbul.
The “Blaugrana” found themselves trailing, but ultimately secured an impressive 4-1 victory, with the 19-year-old star setting up two of his team’s goals in the span of just four minutes in the second half.
Yamal’s two assists came for Fermín López and Gordon in the 50th and 53rd minutes, turning a 1-1 tie into a 1-3 lead and completely changing the course of the match. With those two final passes, the Spaniard achieved an impressive feat in his last eight games with Barcelona: 8 goals and 9 assists—a direct contribution to 17 goals.
His performance takes on even greater significance when compared to one of Neymar’s most impressive streaks in Barcelona. In 2015, during a period when Lionel Messi was sidelined due to injury, the Brazilian took on a leadership role and, in eight games, recorded 10 goals and 6 assists, for a total of 16 goal contributions. Yamal, in other words, with 17 goals and assists over the same period, has already surpassed that historic streak in terms of numbers.
And what’s most impressive is that he’s doing this at just 19 years old, having already become a central figure in Barcelona’s offensive play.
