The Paphos players will board the flight to Italy at 10:00 a.m. ahead of tomorrow’s (10/15 – 10:00 p.m.) match against Atalanta, for the opening match of the Conference League’s League Phase.
Ricardo Sa Pinto will not be counting on David Goldar and Nicolas Enganmaleu, who are injured and will remain in Cyprus.
The “Blues’” preparations will conclude with a training session at 8:00 p.m., while half an hour earlier (7:30 p.m.) the Portuguese coach will speak at the customary press conference alongside Nikolas Ioannou.
Nearly 300 “Blue” fans are expected at tomorrow’s match, having made the trip to the city in Lombardy.
The “Blue” team’s press officer, Christoforos Matthaiou, spoke to the media before the team’s departure and addressed the strength of the Italian team, Paphos’s European goal, the absences, and the crowd’s presence.
Here are the highlights of what Pafos’s press officer had to say:
On the difficulty of the match: “It’s a very difficult challenge, facing a team that wants to win the tournament. We’re going to give it our all and fight for it.”
On Paphos’s European goal and fan turnout: “Our goal is to advance to the next round, get through the league phase, and be playing European soccer after Christmas. We’re expecting about 300 fans.”
On the absences of Engamaleu and Goldar: “Engamaleu and Goldar were left out mostly as a precaution. The schedule is such now that we have matches every 3–4 days, which is why they aren’t with us.”
On the experience of European competition and the challenge posed by Italian teams: “These matches are great experiences, but on the other hand, if we want to advance, playing against Italian teams isn’t exactly ideal.”
