Yesterday, Tuesday, October 13, 2026, following a proposal by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Environment.
The funding comes entirely from European resources and was secured following the Ministry’s efforts with the European Commission to activate the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund. The goal is to support the income of affected producers and ensure the sustainability of their farms.
The prolonged drought, high temperatures, and limited water supplies allocated for irrigation in 2025 affected agricultural production, causing problems for various crops and honey production, as well as an increase in the cost of animal feed.
According to preliminary plans, the emergency financial support is intended for producers of grains, citrus fruits, olives, and bananas, as well as beekeepers, sheep and goat farmers, and dairy farmers. The aid will be granted to professional farmers affected by adverse weather conditions, while special provisions are made for non-professional banana growers affected by the damage to the Mavrokolympos dam. The specific eligibility criteria will be set out in the relevant Support Plan.
Payments will be made through the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization (KOAP), in accordance with the Support Plan to be drawn up by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment. Payments to beneficiaries must be completed by February 28, 2027.
The decision is part of the Ministry’s efforts to support the agricultural community and strengthen the resilience of the primary sector in the face of the impacts of climate change.
